How it works

Goth symbols copy and paste starts with †, a footnote mark Unicode names dagger. Much of the rest is borrowed: ⚰︎ is a genealogy sign for buried, ⛓︎ a road sign for tyre chains, 𖤐 a Bamum letter from Cameroon.

Flat symbols, then black emoji

Gothic symbols copy and paste begins in Goth symbols: 29 characters that take your text colour, most from Miscellaneous Symbols and Dingbats. Black emoji copy and paste starts at 🖤, with all 11 emoji that CLDR, Unicode's list of emoji search words, files under black. Goth emoji copy and paste is the third group, from 🦇 to 🐺.

Gothic text symbols are two things

Gothic text symbols are two things. The Unicode block named Gothic is the alphabet of the Gothic language, and three of its 27 letters close the first group. Gothic type is blackletter, which Unicode has as Fraktur in Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols: Words in gothic letters has eight, but there are no Fraktur digits and this page cannot set your own word.

Tips
  • Goth symbol copy and paste for a name: † name † or nine others, then type over the word name.
  • Dark symbols copy and paste: type dark in the search box for 25 entries, or black for 40.
  • Text style asks for flat emoji. The black squares and card suits obeyed when checked; the spider stayed in colour.

Questions and answers

Is there a goth emoji?

No. CLDR files no emoji under goth or gothic, so goth emojis copy and paste is a matter of taste. Ours is 18 emoji, the bat first, and 13 combos such as 🖤🥀. CLDR does file 🦇 and ⚰️ under vampire.

Which gothic symbols copy paste as plain text?

The 29 in the first group and the nine dark shapes. Eight, such as ☠︎ and ⛓︎, have emoji forms too, so their tiles add U+FE0E, which asks for the flat one. The turned dagger, U+2E38, drew as a box and is left out.

How many black emojis are there?

Eleven, by CLDR's search word black. Unicode names 355 characters black, meaning filled in: the red heart's name is heavy black heart. For black emojis copy and paste, 🖤 is the sure one: unequivocally represented as black in all variants, says the names list.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. Every character was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt): the code points and the character names in the notes come from that file, names in sentence case. Block names come from Blocks.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Blocks.txt) and the Unicode version each character arrived in from DerivedAge.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/DerivedAge.txt), both version 18.0.0. Other names and uses of a character come from the annotations in NamesList.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/NamesList.txt). That is where the second names in the notes come from: obelisk and long cross for the dagger, poison for the skull and crossbones, buried and cremated for the coffin and the urn, tyre chains required for the chains, Aldus leaf and hedera for the floral hearts, and the two lines on hearts (the black heart is unequivocally represented as black in all variants; the heavy black heart is displayed with a red color when used in emoji style). The names list annotates the inverted pentagram and the ankh with nothing, and this page adds nothing about what they stand for. Unicode 18.0 names 355 characters with the word black, 37 of them emoji, counted from UnicodeData.txt and emoji-data.txt by the build. What black means there is from the Unicode Standard 18.0, chapter 22 (https://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode18.0.0/core-spec/chapter-22/, read 2026-09-19): BLACK or WHITE in a name is generally intended to contrast filled versus outline shapes, not to say the character must be presented in black. The Fraktur letters are from Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols, which has no Fraktur capital C, H, I, R or Z because Letterlike Symbols already held them as black-letter capitals, and no Fraktur digits. The emoji, their names, code points and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. Emoji search words are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml and https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotationsDerived/en.xml, main branch). That list files no emoji under goth or gothic, 11 under black (all on this page), two under dark (new moon and sunglasses), and bat and coffin under vampire. The build stops if any of that changes. Which characters have an emoji form, and the text-style sequences that keep them plain, come from emoji-data.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-data.txt) and emoji-variation-sequences.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt), version 18.0.0. The Bamum letter: Wikipedia, Bamum script (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bamum_script, wikitext read 2026-09-19), for the script being made for the Bamum language of Cameroon and its historical stages reaching Unicode in version 6.0. The dagger as a footnote mark that follows the asterisk, its use for a death, and the double dagger as the third footnote mark: Wikipedia, Dagger (mark) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dagger_(mark), wikitext read 2026-09-19). The block named Gothic has 27 letters, all from Unicode 3.1 (UnicodeData.txt, Blocks.txt, DerivedAge.txt). That it is the alphabet of the Gothic language, developed in the 4th century, with most letters resembling Greek ones: Wikipedia, Gothic alphabet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gothic_alphabet, wikitext read 2026-09-19). Three letters are here; othal and nine hundred are left out on purpose. That blackletter type is popularly known as Gothic, and that Fraktur and blackletter are sometimes used interchangeably: Wikipedia, Blackletter (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackletter, wikitext read 2026-09-19). Glyphs were drawn with CoreText on macOS on 2026-09-19 and the ones that came out as boxes were dropped, the turned dagger U+2E38 among them. In the same drawing the text-style forms of the black squares, the nib and the two card suits came out flat, and those of the spider, web, candle, key, house, clock and eye stayed in colour. Every kaomoji, wrapper, divider, styled word and combo is this site's own assembly, and the tile names are our own. All sources were checked on 2026-09-19. Licence: own work
