This roman numeral font generator does the sum for you: type 10·12·2018 and the board draws X·XII·MMXVIII, in 9 fonts from carved Cinzel to hairline Josefin Sans. Words stay as typed, so Est. 1987 becomes Est. MCMLXXXVII.

Nine ways to draw an X
Cinzel is the inscription look, bold with sharp serifs. Cinzel Decorative puts a flag on every I, tails under X and M, and a lozenge for the middle dot. Marcellus and Forum are light; narrow Forum sets a date a third taller than Cinzel. DM Serif Display and the wider Abril Fatface have fat stems and hairline serifs. IM Fell English SC is worn old print. Josefin Sans and Poiret One have no serifs, so III is three bare strokes.
Dates and separators
Type the date in your own order: nothing is rearranged. A dot, hyphen, slash, space or middle dot stays put, and 07 becomes VII. To keep the digits, untick Turn numbers into Roman numerals under More options.
Tips
- Ordinals trip the converter: 1st becomes Ist and 2nd becomes IInd. Type the number alone.
- Numerals stop at 3999, MMMCMXCIX. A 0, or 4000 and up, stays in digits.
- Top to bottom under Shape stacks one letter a row. Thirteen rows come out small, so use Download SVG.
Questions and answers
Does a roman numerals font generator give text I can paste?
It gives a picture, and Copy picture puts it on the clipboard. Roman numerals are ordinary capital letters, so XIV pastes anywhere, but the font stays behind. For small capitals that paste as text, use the small caps generator.
Can it make a clock face?
A ring, not a dial. Under More options, set Shape to Full circle and type 1 to 12: twelve numerals sit round a circle, spaced by their width, so the hours miss their marks. For the IIII of many clock faces, type the letters.
Is the conversion safe for a tattoo or an engraving?
It follows the standard rules, with IV, IX, XL, XC, CD and CM for the fours and nines. It converts exactly what you typed and cannot tell a day from a month, so read each part back before anything permanent.
