Squirrel finds the chipmunk

Tap a tile to copy it. Search reads Unicode names and CLDR's search words, so milk finds both cows and the goat, and squirrel finds Chipmunk. For a bug emoji, type bug: Bug, Beetle, Lady beetle and Cricket come up. For a pig emoji, type pig: both pigs, Boar and Pig nose lead.

Face, or whole animal

Ten animals come twice, as a face and as a whole animal: monkey, dog, cat, tiger, horse, cow, pig, mouse, rabbit and dragon. So tiger emoji copy and paste means choosing between Tiger face and Tiger. The lion emoji is simpler: the one Lion is formally LION FACE, and no emoji is a whole lion.

Tips
  • The rat emoji comes first in one sense: U+1F400 opens 64 code points in a row, all animals.
  • For the panda emoji, type panda or bamboo. CLDR files bamboo under Panda and Pine decoration only.
  • Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig: their code points rise in Chinese zodiac order.

Questions and answers

Is there a bigfoot emoji?

Yes, under another name. Type bigfoot: Hairy creature, U+1FAC8, new in Emoji 17.0, is the only emoji CLDR files under bigfoot, sasquatch and yeti. Unicode keeps it with the fantasy people, not the animals.

Is there a bull emoji?

Not by name. CLDR files the word bull under three emoji: Ox, U+1F402, the zodiac sign Taurus, and Bullseye. The first two are on this page, so typing bull finds them.

What is the difference between Cow face and Cow?

Cow face, U+1F42E, is the head alone and dates from Emoji 0.6. Cow, U+1F404, is the whole animal, added in Emoji 1.0. CLDR files both under cow, moo, milk and farm, so a search finds them together.

Is there a frog emoji that is not a face?

No. The frog emoji is one tile: Frog, formally FROG FACE. It is also the only emoji Unicode files as an amphibian, so that subgroup has a single entry. Frog on a log and Frog chorus are the combos.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The emoji, their names, code points and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. The first 132 items are every entry of that file's six animal subgroups: animal-mammal (66), animal-bird (22), animal-amphibian (1, the frog), animal-reptile (8), animal-marine (18) and animal-bug (17). The page lifts cow face and cow to the front so that it opens on a cow, and splits the rest into chips; inside each chip the file's order stands. 45 of the 132 carry the file's oldest label, Emoji 0.6; orca (17.0) and monarch butterfly (18.0) are the newest. The 13 that follow are emoji the file keeps in other groups: hairy creature (People & Body, person-fantasy), the three wise monkeys (Smileys & Emotion, monkey-face), teddy bear (Activities, game), carousel horse (Travel & Places, place-other) and seven zodiac signs (Symbols, zodiac). The copy of the file the build reads is byte for byte the one downloaded from that address on 2026-09-19. The search words are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml and https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotationsDerived/en.xml, main branch). CLDR lists cow and moo for cow face and cow alone; bull for ox, bullseye and Taurus; tiger for tiger face and tiger; lion for lion, seal and Leo; frog, panda and rat for one emoji each; bug for bug, beetle and cricket; pig for pig face, pig, boar and pig nose; bamboo for panda and pine decoration; bigfoot, sasquatch, yeti and cryptid for hairy creature alone. It has no word alligator, cattle, calf, toad or reindeer for anything. Crocodile also answers to alligator in this page's search: that word is ours, not CLDR's. The text forms come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). This page switches those forms off, so every emoji copies as listed. Every character that is not an emoji was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and a note that names a character uses its name from that file. The formal names in the notes (LION FACE, PANDA FACE, FROG FACE, SHEEP, DROMEDARY CAMEL, BACTRIAN CAMEL, DOVE OF PEACE and the rest) are from that file, as is the run U+1F400 to U+1F43F, 64 code points that are all in this set, starting with RAT. The order of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig) is from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_zodiac; that the twelve code points rise in the same order is computed from emoji-test.txt. The 16 combos are this site's own choice and their names are our own. All sources were checked on 2026-09-19. Licence: own work: the selection, the combo names, the text drawings and the notes are ours. Emoji names, code points and search words are Unicode and CLDR data, used under the Unicode License v3 (https://www.unicode.org/license.txt).
