How it works
This upside down text generator turns every letter over and runs the line backwards, so it reads right once the screen is turned round. Some apps strip or block these characters, and screen readers may read them badly.

Why it comes out backwards
Turning a line half a circle flips each letter and puts the last one first, so Upside down text becomes ʇxǝʇ uʍop ǝpᴉsd∩. Fourteen characters stay as typed because they look the same turned: l, o, s, x, z, H, I, N, O, S, X, Z, 0 and 8.
Where the turned letters come from
Most are letters of the phonetic alphabet, such as ʎ and ʇ. Capital A becomes ∀, the logic sign for all, and U becomes ∩, intersection. Digits borrow further: 2 is a Korean Hangul letter, and 4 and 7 are Bopomofo letters.
Tips
- Capitals lose their height: K comes out as a small turned k and J as ſ, the long s. Small letters turn more evenly.
- For one turned letter with its Unicode name, copy it from the upside down letters table, which also holds the true turned capitals.
- Punctuation turns too: ? becomes ¿, ! becomes ¡, and a full stop rises to ˙, a dot above.

How do you spell I love you upside down?
noʎ ǝʌol I. The y is Latin small letter turned y, the v a turned v and the e a turned e, and the words run from the end. Paste it, turn the screen round, and it reads I love you.
Is there an upside down font?
No font is involved. Each turned letter is a separate Unicode character, mostly from the phonetic alphabet and maths, so the line pastes into a bio, a chat or a name field with no font menu. A device without one shows an empty box.
How do I type upside down on a keyboard?
Type the plain words in the box and copy the turned line. The turned letters have no keys on a standard US layout, but each is an ordinary character, so it pastes like any other.
