Use these for fun, not for anything that matters. Screen readers read many of these characters badly or skip them, search cannot find them, and some apps strip them or show empty boxes.

How it works

A cursive font generator that pastes as text has two alphabets to draw on, and both were made for mathematics: 104 script letters, bold and light. Some apps strip or block these characters, and screen readers may read them badly.

Heavy on top, fine line below

The large card shows Cursive bold. Cursive, the fine-line alphabet, is the row under it. Nothing joins: each letter is a separate character, so you get the slant and the loops without the connecting strokes. Digits and punctuation have no script form and stay as typed.

Eleven letters that were symbols first

The fine-line run has eleven empty slots. B, E, F, H, I, L, M, R, e, g and o were already in Unicode as symbols from 1993: ℒ is the Laplace transform, and ℳ once stood for the German Mark. In the sample, 8 of 20 letters are borrowed. Bold has no gaps, which is why it leads.

Tips
  • Unicode's own charts draw script in roundhand, and the standard says script varies widely between fonts. Your reader may see a different cursive text font.
  • Since Unicode 14.0 (2021) the 26 fine-line capitals can take a selector for chancery or roundhand. This page adds neither, so the reader's font decides.
  • Where a box counts UTF-16 units, the 23-character sample is 43 in bold and 35 in the lighter row, because borrowed letters count once.

Questions and answers

Is this a cursive handwriting generator or a real cursive font?

No font and no joined handwriting. Pasteable text cannot carry a font, so each letter is swapped for a script character and the reader's device draws it. For a real typeface saved as a picture, use the script font page.

Can it write numbers in cursive?

Not as characters. Unicode has no script digits, so a year or a phone number stays plain in both rows. Cursive tattoo fonts sets a date in real script typefaces on a sheet to print.

Will cursive letters work in a name or a bio?

They paste wherever text goes. A form or search box that normalizes text reads all 104 as plain letters, so a styled name can come back plain, and a search will not find a word written in script. Keep the plain version.

How this list was compiled: All 104 rows were generated by a script from the Unicode Character Database, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt). The script stops unless every name is the one expected, every row carries a <font> decomposition back to its plain letter, and the file uses every character named Mathematical script or Mathematical bold script (93 of them). Ages come from https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/DerivedAge.txt and blocks from https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Blocks.txt. The list is the two script alphabets of the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block: Mathematical bold script (U+1D4D0 to U+1D503, one unbroken run) and Mathematical script (U+1D49C to U+1D4CF), 52 letters each. The lighter run has eleven empty slots, for capital B, E, F, H, I, L, M and R and small e, g and o. Those letters are in the Letterlike Symbols block (U+212C, U+2130, U+2131, U+210B, U+2110, U+2112, U+2133, U+211B, U+212F, U+210A, U+2134), in Unicode since version 1.1. Their second names (Bernoulli function, Laplace transform and the rest) are alias lines in https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/NamesList.txt, quoted as written there. Two characters were left out on purpose: U+2113 Script small l, which NamesList.txt says is derived from a special italicized version of the small letter l, and U+2118 Script capital P, which it says has the form of a lowercase calligraphic p. The real script l and P are U+1D4C1 and U+1D4AB. The chancery and roundhand variation sequences on the 26 lighter capitals are from https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/StandardizedVariants.txt; section 22.2.1 of the core specification (https://www.unicode.org/versions/Unicode18.0.0/core-spec/chapter-22/) says they were defined starting with Version 14.0 and that none exist for bold script or for small letters. Unicode has no script digits and no script punctuation, so the file has none. Release dates are from https://www.unicode.org/history/publicationdates.html (1.1 in June 1993, 3.1 in March 2001, 4.0 in April 2003, 14.0 in September 2021). DerivedAge.txt gives one letter a later age than the rest: U+1D4C1 Mathematical script small l, version 4.0. All checked on 2026-09-19. Names are the official ones in sentence case.
