Unicode's sport list runs to 27 emoji, and Volleyball, U+1F3D0, is fifth. Here it comes first and sits above Copy, so volleyball emoji copy and paste is one press. 100 more follow: kit, players, medals and sport filed elsewhere.

Find your sport
The first 27 tiles are Unicode's whole sport list in its own order, with Volleyball moved to the front. Then come 43 people playing, the six medals, and 25 that Unicode files under transport, clothing or games. Search reads names and Unicode's search words: hoop finds Basketball, karate finds Martial arts uniform, gymnastics finds the three cartwheelers, and yoga finds the lotus position.
Skin tones and Text style
Of the 101, 51 take a skin tone, and the tone row sets them all at once. Person fencing and Skier take none. Eighteen have a plain text form, Soccer ball and Trophy among them: switch to Text style and they take the colour of your words. The font decides.
Tips
No emoji is named golf. Search golf and you get Flag in hole and the three golfers.
Plain cricket is the insect. The bat and ball is Cricket game.
Questions and answers
Is there a volleyball player emoji?
No. One emoji in Unicode's list, version 18.0, has volleyball in its name or its search words, and it is the ball. The nearest player is Person playing handball, which CLDR, Unicode's list of search words, files under catch, throw, toss and lob.
What does the volleyball emoji mean?
The ball, or the sport. Unicode names it volleyball and files it under Activities, straight after the basketball. CLDR gives it three search words: ball, game and volleyball. None of them is beach, so there is no separate beach volleyball emoji.
When was the volleyball emoji added?
In Emoji 1.0, as U+1F3D0. Six more of the 27 came with it: rugby football, cricket game, field hockey, ice hockey, ping pong and badminton. The newest of the 27 is Diving mask, from Emoji 12.0.
Which sports have no emoji?
Plenty. No emoji name and no CLDR search word holds pickleball, netball, squash, snooker, sumo, dodgeball or cheerleading. Martial arts share one tile: judo, karate and taekwondo all lead to Martial arts uniform.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The emoji, their names, code points and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. The first three sections are whole subgroups of that file, in its order: sport (27 entries, group Activities), person-sport (43 entries, group People & Body, counting the man and woman forms and leaving out the skin-tone copies, which the tone row supplies) and award-medal (6 entries). The one change to the order is that Volleyball leads, because this page is named for it; Unicode prints it fifth, after the basketball. The fourth section is our own pick of 25 sport emoji that Unicode files in other places (people running, climbing and in the lotus position, ground, water and air transport, time, game, clothing, tool and flags), in file order. Each note says where the file puts it. Left out: vehicles and animals that are only sometimes sport, and the facing-right forms of the runner. Only one emoji in the file has volleyball in its name or in its search words. No name and no search word holds pickleball, netball, squash, snooker, sumo, dodgeball or cheerleading. The search words are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml and https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotationsDerived/en.xml, main branch). The text forms come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). All sources were checked on 2026-09-19.
