How it works

Unicode has no royal section, so Crown, U+1F451, is filed under clothing. Crown emoji copy and paste is one press of Copy above, and 65 more sit below: royals, chess kings and queens, tridents, ASCII crowns and 15 combos.

Find the one you meant

Search reads Unicode names and Unicode's search words, so regal finds Person with crown, knights finds Fleur-de-lis, and poseidon finds the trident, the merman and three more. The three royals and the three merfolk take skin tones, and the tone row sets all six at once. The crown has none to take.

Which crowns survive the trip

Crown and Princess date from Emoji 0.6, the oldest version. Person with crown is from Emoji 14.0, and a phone older than that shows an empty box. The chess pieces, ♆ and Ψ are not emoji: they are text, and take the colour of your words. The hieroglyphs need a font that has them.

Tips
  • For a fleur de lis symbol in plain text, switch to Text style: Fleur-de-lis is the only tile with a text form, U+269C plus U+FE0E.
  • For a trident symbol where emoji are refused, use ♆, the astronomers' sign for Neptune, or Ψ, a Greek letter that looks the part.
  • Chess pieces are ordinary text. If a name field throws the crown out, try ♛ or ♕. The crowned names are built on them.

Questions and answers

Is there a queen emoji?

No emoji is called queen, and none is called king. CLDR, Unicode's list of search words, files queen under Crown and Princess, and king under Crown and Prince. Person with crown has no gender in its name. Chess queens ♛ and ♕ are plain text.

Why is the crown filed under clothing?

It sits in the group Objects, subgroup clothing, between the hair pick and the woman's hat: headwear, as far as the standard cares. Its wearers are filed with the people. CLDR pulls them together: king, queen, royal and royalty all lead to the crown.

What is the trident emblem?

Unicode's name for U+1F531. A trident is a three-pronged spear: the tool of Poseidon in Greek myth and Neptune in Roman, and in Hinduism the weapon of Shiva, called a trishula. CLDR files the emoji under poseidon, anchor and ship.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The emoji, their names, code points and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. No emoji in that file is named queen or king. The search words are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml and https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotationsDerived/en.xml, main branch). CLDR lists the word crown for four emoji (person with crown, prince, princess, crown), queen for princess and crown, king for prince and crown, and trident for the trident emblem and the three merfolk. The text forms come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). Every character that is not an emoji was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and a note that names a character uses its name from that file. The pitchfork's other name and the purpose of the Chess Symbols block come from NamesList.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/NamesList.txt). The five hieroglyph descriptions are the kEH_Desc values of Unikemet.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Unikemet.txt). The meanings of the six Han characters are the kDefinition values of the Unihan database, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Unihan.zip). Wikipedia supplied four facts: the fleur-de-lis as a stylised lily whose French name means lily flower (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fleur-de-lis), the trident as the tool of Poseidon and Neptune (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trident), the planet sign for Neptune as that trident (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planetary_symbols), and the crowning of a draughts king with a second piece (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checkers). The 8 crowned lines, the 4 ASCII drawings and the 15 combos are this site's own work: the styled words are assembled from character names, the drawings were made for this page and the combo names are our own.
