Sob emoji copy and paste, by search word

What arrives at the other end

Face holding back tears dates from Emoji 14.0, and a device with older fonts shows an empty box. T_T, ;_;, :'( and QQ are plain ASCII and arrive anywhere text does. (เฒฅ๏นเฒฅ) borrows a Kannada letter and (เฎ‡๏นเฎ‡) a Tamil one, so each needs a font for that script.

Tips
  • For cry emoji copy and paste at a lower volume, take Crying face: one tear, closed mouth. Keep the sob for streams.
  • Sad but relieved face looks like crying, but CLDR files its drop under sweat and whew. Send it for a narrow escape.
  • Replying to someone's bad day, pick Sob, then a hug. It ends on People hugging, the only emoji CLDR files under comfort.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The 26 emoji, their names, code points, skin tones and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. The search words quoted in the notes are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml, main branch). The groups Crying faces and Happy tears, with Droplet, are every emoji to which that file gives one of the search words cry, crying, tear, tears or sob: 11 in all. The text forms come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). The other emoji, the 15 text faces and the 14 combos are this site's own choice, and the combo names are our own. Every character in a text face was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and a note that names a letter uses its name from that file. Wikipedia's articles Emoticon and List of emoticons record T_T, ;_; and QQ as crying faces and the Hangul vowel letters as tears (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emoticons, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticon).
