There is no bow emoji

CLDR files bow under six emoji: three people bowing, folded hands, a bow and arrow, and Wrapped gift. None will stick to a parcel. Ribbon is the usual stand-in. Bows and boxes, no emoji has three characters Unicode does name bowtie or bow tie, and bow symbols has more.

Tags with the names left open

Three tiles are gift tags. Gift tags and thank-yous has To: ____ From: ____ behind a Label, the one emoji CLDR files under tag. Plain-text gift lines repeats it in bare ASCII, and the drawing Gift tag to fill in adds a hole for the string. Paste, then type the names over the underscores.

Tips
  • Search knows words CLDR does not: secret santa finds three tiles, housewarming two, wedding and teacher one each.
  • Eight emoji have a text form, Label, Package and Scissors among them. Wrapped gift has none. Only Folded hands takes a skin tone.
  • Nothing is newer than Emoji 13.0: Nesting dolls, Potted plant and People hugging. The six drawings are plain ASCII, the widest 26 columns.

Questions and answers

Which emoji is the gift emoji?

Wrapped gift, U+1F381, Emoji 0.6. CLDR files it under nine words: birthday, bow, box, celebration, christmas, gift, present, surprise and wrapped. Red envelope, Emoji 11.0, is the only other emoji under gift; Unicode's notes say it contains a monetary gift in East and Southeast Asia.

Is there a Christmas stocking or a Secret Santa emoji?

Not by name. CLDR files stocking under Socks and nothing else, so the sock does both jobs. Santa has three emoji, none filed under secret. The combo Secret Santa borrows a shushing face, filed under quiet, shh and shush.

How do I say thank you for a gift in emoji?

CLDR files two emoji under thanks: Folded hands and People hugging. Smiling face with open hands, which Unicode names Hugging face, goes with the line You shouldn't have. Thank-you gift pairs the present with the hands. Thank you bubble letters prints the words card size.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The emoji, their names, code points and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. The search words are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml and https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotationsDerived/en.xml, main branch). CLDR lists the word gift for two emoji, red envelope and wrapped gift, and present for wrapped gift only. It lists bow for six (folded hands, three people bowing, wrapped gift, bow and arrow) and not for the ribbon, ribbon for three (heart with ribbon, ribbon, reminder ribbon), surprise for six faces and the wrapped gift, tag for label only, stocking for socks only, thanks for folded hands and people hugging, and delivery for takeout box, delivery truck and package. The first group is our own choice of the two gift emoji and four pieces of wrapping; the groups after it are our own choice too. The text forms come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). Every character that is not an emoji was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and a note that names a character uses its name from that file. In that file one character name holds the word present (Wrapped present), one holds gift (Red gift envelope) and eleven hold ribbon: Ribbon, Reminder ribbon, Heart with ribbon and eight ribbon arrows. Notes about what a character is used for come from the annotations in NamesList.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/NamesList.txt). The notes on Wrapped present and Package (each cross-refers to the other), Red gift envelope (contains a monetary gift in East and Southeast Asia), Label (price tag), Postbox (mailbox for sending mail), Headphone (music) and OCR bow tie (unique asterisk) come from there, as do the block names. Meanings of Chinese characters come from the kDefinition field of Unihan_Readings.txt in Unihan.zip, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Unihan.zip). The 13 gift tag and thank-you lines, 5 plain-text lines, 6 ASCII drawings, 8 occasion pairs and 7 combos are this site's own work: the emoji in them are fetched by name from emoji-test.txt, the proverb about the thought is traditional with no author, and the drawings were made for this page. All sources were checked on 2026-09-19. Licence: own work
