How it works

These 101 love kaomoji show affection with arms and company, and none has a heart. The arms are letters and maths signs: づ, っ and つ reach out, ⊂ and ⊃ wrap round. Tap a face and it is copied.

Choose a direction, then tap

Tap a tile and the face is copied. The first three groups go by the arms: reaching right toward the name after the face, reaching left, or wide open. Then two faces in one hug, side by side, a pat on the head, and words. Search reads the labels: sorry finds (つ´ω`)つ and (・ω・)ノ(_ _), and group hug finds two.

What the arms are made of

(づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ holds out Hiragana letter du, U+3065, twice. っ is a small tu and つ a full-size one. ⊂ and ⊃ are Subset of and Superset of. Joined hands are 人, the character for a person, in 10 faces.

Tips
  • Want kaomoji love with a heart on it? Every one of those is on the heart page.
  • Keyboard only keeps 10. (>^_^)> <(^_^<) is two faces in plain ASCII, and <(^^)> is six characters.
  • Wiktionary gives なでなで as a child's pat-pat and よしよし as it's all right. Both sit under With a word.

Questions and answers

How do you type a hug kaomoji on a keyboard?

Type (>^_^)> for a hug reaching right, <(^_^<) for one reaching left and <(^_^)> for arms wide. The angle brackets are the arms. Put two together, (>^_^)> <(^_^<), and they meet. The Keyboard only chip shows all 10.

What does (づ。◕‿‿◕。)づ mean?

It is a face holding both arms out for a hug. Each づ is an arm, each ◕ an eye and each 。 a shine on the cheek. Wikipedia's list of emoticons files the same arms, on (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ, under hugging or reaching and kissing.

Why is there no heart on these faces?

A face lives on one page only, and every face with a heart is on the heart kaomoji page. These 101 say it with arms, a second face, a pat or a word, such as 大好き, which Wiktionary glosses as loved or very liked.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed into the page by hand. The 101 entries are this site's own selection and arrangement: each was put together for this page from the parts a kaomoji is made of (brackets, eyes, a mouth, arms, a second face). Some are forms in common use that nobody owns. The labels, groups and order are our own. Every character of every entry was looked up in UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and must be an assigned, visible character. Emoji are left out, and so is every heart, star, sparkle, flower and music note, which have pages of their own. The arms are letters and signs: Hiragana letter du (U+3065), Hiragana letter small tu (U+3063), Hiragana letter tu (U+3064), Subset of (U+2282) and Superset of (U+2283). The joined hands are the ideograph U+4EBA. "Borrows" under an entry names each character from outside the blocks of punctuation, common symbols and Latin, Greek, Cyrillic and Japanese letters, with its script from Scripts.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Scripts.txt) or, for a Latin or common character, its block from Blocks.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Blocks.txt). "Is on the emoji list" would name a character with the Emoji property in emoji-data.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-data.txt). The meaning given beside each Japanese word was read on its English Wiktionary entry (https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ plus the word, or the kana form the entry points to) on the same day. "Keyboard only" means every character is printable ASCII. "Short" means 6 code points or fewer, spaces counted. Nothing here says how any one device draws a face. Licence: own work
