How do you type the Lenny face?
Copy it, because six of its 11 characters are not ASCII. Tap the first tile under Lenny faces. The eyes are degree signs, the brows are U+0361, the line under the nose is U+035C and the nose is ʖ, U+0296.
Where is the Lenny face shrug?
It is the first tile under Lenny shrugs and poses, with six more beside it: a wink, a raised brow, square arms, rounded arms. Where text is read as Markdown it loses its left arm, so the second tile is escaped to arrive whole.
Is it :-) or :) for a smiley?
Both are in use, and :-) is the older. Wikipedia's emoticon article records that :-) and :-( were proposed on a university bulletin board in 1982, and that the two-character :), which omits the nose, is very popular. Here 27 of 69 keep one.

How this list was compiled: Built by script, not typed into the page by hand. The 117 entries are this site's own selection and arrangement: 69 sideways emoticons in common use that nobody owns, and 48 faces put together for this page from the parts of the Lenny face. The labels, groups and order are our own. What a sideways emoticon means follows the table of Western emoticons in Wikipedia's List of emoticons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emoticons), read on 2026-09-19; the year 1982, the equal sign eyes, the second bracket and the Cyrillic habit of typing the mouth alone are from Wikipedia's Emoticon article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emoticon), read the same day. Wikipedia prints its noses as a non-breaking hyphen; here each is the hyphen-minus a keyboard types. Every character of every entry was looked up in UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and must be an assigned, visible character. Emoji are left out. The Lenny brows are Combining double inverted breve (U+0361), the line under the nose is Combining double breve below (U+035C), the nose is Latin letter inverted glottal stop (U+0296) and the eyes are Degree sign (U+00B0).
