Search by mood
Search reads Unicode names and CLDR search words, so smug, suave and dapper find the smirk and hehe finds Upside-down face. Apart from face, flirt is the only search word the smirk shares with Winking face. Pick a skin tone under More options and five tiles follow it, Ninja and Nail polish among them, as do three combos.
What arrives at the other end
Melting face and Face with diagonal mouth date from Emoji 14.0, and a device with older fonts shows an empty box. :-J, ;^) and :^) are plain ASCII and arrive anywhere text does. The Lenny face needs two combining marks that Unicode calls ligature ties, and ΰ² βΏΰ² borrows a Kannada letter, so each leans on the reader's fonts.
Tips
Not a wink: Unicode puts Winking face with the smiling faces and the smirk with the neutral and skeptical ones.
For smug with the edge off, send Cat with wry smile, the only emoji CLDR files under wry or ironic.
Seven emoji carry the word shade. If a bare smirk could read as hostile, Sips tea is quieter.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The 30 emoji, their names, code points, subgroups, skin tones and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. The search words quoted in the notes are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml, main branch). The first group is mechanical: Smirking face, then every other emoji that shares its search word sly, swag, shade or homie, which is 11 emoji. Ten of its sixteen words reach no other emoji, face is left out because hundreds carry it, and flirt is left out because it reaches 11 others, mostly kisses and couples that have pages of their own; Winking face and Folding hand fan are picked from that set by hand. The formal name Cat face with wry smile is from UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and the descriptions of the Lenny face characters (ligature tie, lateral click, undertie) are from NamesList.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/NamesList.txt). Text forms come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). The other emoji, the 11 text faces and the 12 combos are this site's own choice, and the combo names are our own. Every character in a text face was checked against UnicodeData.txt. Wikipedia's List of emoticons pairs the Lenny face with the smirking face emoji and lists suggesting mischief first among its uses, lists ;) and ;^) in a row labelled wink, smirk, and lists :-J as tongue-in-cheek beside the smirking and unamused faces (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emoticons). All sources were checked on 2026-09-19. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rizz, checked 2026-09-20 (rizz as internet slang for style, charm or attractiveness, for the page FAQ; CLDR annotations list the word for no emoji).
