Type the weather, not the name

Every tile copies on a tap. Search takes CLDR's words as well as Unicode's names: hurricane finds Cyclone, whirlwind finds Tornado and zap finds High voltage.

Eight emoji for rain, three for wind

CLDR files eight emoji under rain, and the Rain chip is exactly those, a rainbow and a beach umbrella included. For wind emoji copy and paste it files three: Wind face, Leaf fluttering in wind and Wind chime. Dashing away shares their chip, though it is formally DASH SYMBOL and CLDR files it under fast and smoke.

Tips
  • Unicode 1.1 glossed U+2600 to U+2603 as clear, cloudy, rainy and snowy weather. One text drawing copies all four.
  • CLDR files 18 emoji under weather: Rainbow and Thermometer are in, Wind face, Umbrella and the thunderstorm cloud are out.
  • ι›² cloud, ι›ͺ snow and ι›· thunder sit under the rain radical, 雨. Rainbow, θ™Ή, is under the insect radical.

Questions and answers

What is the rain emoji called?

Cloud with rain, U+1F327, added in Emoji 0.7; Unicode's formal name is CLOUD WITH RAIN. The older one is Umbrella with rain drops, U+2614, in Unicode since version 4.0 and glossed showery weather.

Is there a wind emoji?

Yes: Wind face, U+1F32C, formally WIND BLOWING FACE, added in Emoji 0.7. No emoji is named just wind. Tornado and Cyclone share its chip, and Cyclone is the only emoji CLDR files under hurricane, typhoon or twister.

How do I copy a cloud symbol that is not an emoji?

For cloud symbol copy and paste, press Text style, then tap Cloud: it copies U+2601 with Unicode's text-style selector. 21 of the 29 emoji here switch the same way, the rain cloud included. Rain, thunderstorm and heavy snow also have plain text characters.

Is there a hail emoji or a storm emoji?

Not by name. CLDR's only emoji under hail is Oncoming taxi, and it has no search word storm at all. Typing storm here finds Cloud with lightning and rain, the plain text thunderstorm and the Storm warning combo.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The 29 emoji, their names, code points and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. The Rain chip is every emoji CLDR files under the word rain, with Cloud with rain moved to the front. The search words are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml and https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotationsDerived/en.xml, main branch). CLDR lists rain for eight emoji, wind for three (leaf fluttering in wind, wind face, wind chime), cloudy for sun behind cloud alone, hurricane, typhoon and twister for cyclone alone, hail for oncoming taxi alone, weather for 18, and storm, windy, breeze, drizzle and sleet for none. The text forms come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). 21 of the emoji here have one, so the page prints its Emoji style and Text style switch; that U+2601 and U+1F327 default to text style is from emoji-data.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-data.txt). Every character that is not an emoji was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and a note that names a character uses its name from that file. The formal names in the notes (CLOUD WITH RAIN, THUNDER CLOUD AND RAIN, WIND BLOWING FACE, DASH SYMBOL, CLOUD WITH TORNADO, BLACK SUN WITH RAYS, BLACK SNOWMAN) are from that file. The glosses (clear, cloudy, rainy, snowy and showery weather, partly cloudy, light snow, heavy snow, thunderstorm, bathing beach, running dash, typhoon and hurricane, compass, xun, zhen) are the alias and comment lines of NamesList.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/NamesList.txt). The Unicode version each character dates from is from DerivedAge.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/DerivedAge.txt) and its block from Blocks.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Blocks.txt). The meanings, readings and radicals of the six Han characters are the kDefinition, kMandarin, kJapaneseKun and kRSUnicode values of the Unihan database, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Unihan.zip), the simplified forms its kSimplifiedVariant values, and radicals 142, 173 and 182 are resolved through CJKRadicals.txt (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/CJKRadicals.txt).
