Pick the chalk hand
Cabin Sketch has scribble built into every stroke, so it looks chalked before the dust. Schoolbell and Patrick Hand are thin classroom print; Gochi Hand is rounder and heavier. Cookie is a café board's brush script, Bebas Neue the tall capitals above it. Permanent Marker sets one and a half times as wide as Cookie, so a long line comes out smaller.
Dust, board and crayon
The dust opens at Strength 25: light specks, every word readable. At 50 the thin hands break up; past 75 most of the chalk is gone. For a crayon font generator, open More options, set Colours to Red, Sky blue or Purple and Background to White or Old paper: the same specks read as wax skipping over paper.
Tips
- For a menu, open More options and set Shape to Every line full width: the shortest line comes out biggest.
- Decorations are drawn solid, without dust. On Transparent, chalk-white letters vanish on a white page.
- All eight have é, ñ, ü, ç, ß and å. Only Gochi Hand and Cookie have ł; none has ğ.
Questions and answers
Can I copy the chalk letters as text?
Not as text: no character carries dust, so a chalk font generator hands back a picture, and Copy picture pastes it into a slide or a chat. The PNG has the dust baked in. In the SVG it is a filter, which some programs skip.
Which of these fonts were drawn as chalk?
Only Cabin Sketch has a texture of its own: its description calls it the Sketch version of Cabin, "with the texture of a teenage doodle". Schoolbell's credits "the finest lettering artist in the 2nd Grade". On the other seven, the chalk is the effect alone.
Can I sell things made with it?
Six of the eight fonts carry the SIL Open Font License, whose FAQ says a graphic made with one is yours, credit optional. Schoolbell and Permanent Marker carry Apache 2.0, whose conditions cover passing on the font and never mention pictures.
