How it works

The drool emoji is Drooling face, U+1F924, and there is only one. CLDR, Unicode's list of search words, gives it two words, drooling and face, so nothing is filed beside it. The other 58 are this page's pick.

One face, two search words

Drooling face arrived in Emoji 3.0. Among Unicode's face emoji only Clown face has as few search words. The word drool reaches nothing else. Dribble reaches three emoji, and all three are bouncing a basketball. Lick and slurp belong to Tongue alone.

Asleep or hungry

Unicode files it with the sleepy faces, between Sleepy face and Sleeping face, so on paper this is the drool of a nap. For drooling emoji copy and paste with dinner in mind, CLDR files six emoji under hungry. Face savoring food is on the second tile. Weary face, Pizza, Hamburger, Poultry leg, and Fork and knife open the Hungry group.

Tips
  • The mouth in (ยฏ๏นƒยฏ) is U+FE43, a corner bracket for vertical text: no font, empty box. :P and :P~ are plain ASCII.
  • Drooling face takes no skin tone. Baby and Person in bed do, and the combo First tooth follows the baby.
  • Thought balloon is the only emoji CLDR files under dream. The combo Dreaming of dinner puts a Hamburger after it.

Questions and answers

Is there more than one drooling emoji?

No. Drooling face, U+1F924, is the only emoji with drool in its name or its search words. There is no drooling cat and no drooling person. The nearest is Hot face, CLDR's only entry for panting.

What does the drooling emoji mean?

Unicode gives it a name and no meaning. Its emoji list puts Drooling face in the sleepy group, and CLDR's two words, drooling and face, do not settle it. So the page has a group for each reading: asleep, hungry, and wanting something.

Is the drooling emoji the same as the yum emoji?

No. Drooling face, U+1F924, is filed with the sleepy faces; Face savoring food, U+1F60B, with the tongue faces. CLDR gives the second yum, yummy, delicious and hungry, and the first only drooling and face.

How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The 37 emoji, their names, code points, subgroups, skin tones and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. The search words quoted in the notes are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml, main branch). Only one emoji drools: Drooling face is the only emoji whose name or search words contain drool, and its whole CLDR list is drooling and face, so no group can be filled by search word. One rule is complete: the six emoji to which CLDR gives the search word hungry are all here, Face savoring food in the first group and the other five at the head of the group Hungry, where Cut of meat, Doughnut and Chocolate bar are our own additions. The group Drooling in your sleep follows Unicode's own filing, which puts Drooling face in the subgroup face-sleepy between Sleepy face and Sleeping face. Every other emoji is this site's own pick and the notes say why. The text forms (Racing car, Video game) come from emoji-variation-sequences.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/emoji/emoji-variation-sequences.txt). The 11 text faces and the 11 combos are this site's own choice, and the combo names are our own. Wikipedia's List of emoticons has no drooling row, so the faces built on U+FE43, the lip-licking face and :P~ are not taken from a source we can cite, and their labels say what each character is, not where the face came from; every character was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and a note that names a character uses its name from that file. :P and :-P are recorded as tongue sticking out in Wikipedia's List of emoticons (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_emoticons). All sources were checked on 2026-09-19.
