How this list was compiled: Built by script on 2026-09-19, not typed by hand. The emoji, their names, code points and Emoji version numbers come from emoji-test.txt, version 18.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/emoji/emoji-test.txt); names are the CLDR short names printed in that file, in sentence case. One name in that file contains popcorn, and none contains kernel, snack, caramel or nacho. The search words are from the CLDR English annotations (https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotations/en.xml and https://github.com/unicode-org/cldr/blob/main/common/annotationsDerived/en.xml, main branch). CLDR lists four words for popcorn (corn, movie, pop, popcorn), six emoji under movie of which popcorn is the only food, two under corn, two under pop, salt alone under salty, and nothing under snack, kernel, drama, binge, caramel or microwave. Every character that is not an emoji was checked against UnicodeData.txt, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/UnicodeData.txt), and a note that names a character uses its name from that file. The meanings and readings of U+7206, U+7C73 and U+82B1 are from the Unihan database, version 18.0.0 (https://www.unicode.org/Public/18.0.0/ucd/Unihan.zip). The corn, the pop, the flake, the cinema since the 1930s, the breakfast cereal and the garland are from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popcorn; the other notes draw on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kettle_corn, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_feature, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binge-watching and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas_ornament. The word by language is from the translation table of https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/popcorn, which lists 25 Spanish words; the six here carry the countries that table gives them. The meanings in the notes are from Wiktionary's entries popcorn, grab the popcorn, popcorn movie, popcorn chicken, spill the tea, tearjerker, jump scare, cliffhanger, binge-watch, matinee, double feature, kettle corn and kernel (each at https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ plus the phrase).
