Search by sir, troops or chef
Search reads Unicode names and CLDR search words, so sir, troops and respect each find Saluting face, the only emoji that has them. Nod finds Head shaking vertically and chef finds Cook. Pick a skin tone once and 19 tiles and four combos follow it.
When the salute arrives as a box
Saluting face is Emoji 14.0, which Unicode's version chart dates to 2021, and the nod is Emoji 15.1. Where the fonts are older, a box turns up instead. o7 cannot fail that way: a lowercase o and a 7, both ASCII. The kaomoji with ใ for a hand need a Japanese font, because ใ is a Hiragana iteration mark.

Questions and answers
Is there more than one salute emoji?
Two, by CLDR's count. Saluting face and Vulcan salute are the only emoji with salute in their names or search words. There is no saluting soldier: CLDR files the word soldier under two emoji only, Military helmet and Ninja.
What does o7 mean?
A salute in two characters: the o is the head, the 7 the arm raised to it. Wikipedia's emoticon list pairs it with Saluting face, and records (๏ฝ-ยด)> as a salute from a Japanese message board. The other ten text salutes are this site's own.
Why does the salute ignore the skin tone I picked?
Because no smiley takes one. None of the 172 entries in Unicode's Smileys and emotion group has skin tone forms, and Saluting face is filed there, in the subgroup face-hand. Hands filed under People and body do take tones, which is why Vulcan salute changes.
