Five hairlines, thinnest first
Stems, in thousandths of the font size: Work Sans 16, Raleway and Josefin Sans 20, Poiret One 33. Josefin's lowercase is about half as tall as its capitals, and its O is a true circle, as is Poiret One's zero. Herr Von Muellerhoff is the script. New look deals 16 designs, from black on white to a neon tube.
Weight and spacing
Pen weight adds a same-colour line round each letter. Under More options, Strength of the look at 0 nearly doubles the Work Sans stem; at 100 it is over four times as thick. With no letter-spacing control, type a space between letters, S T U D I O. Extra spaces collapse to one, so give each word its own line.
Tips
- Raleway's 3, 4, 5, 7 and 9 hang below the line. For level dates use Work Sans or Josefin Sans.
- Raleway's stem is about 4 pixels on the board, one grey pixel in a 300-pixel avatar: add Pen weight.
- Work Sans and Poiret One lack ł, š, ž and ğ; the script lacks ğ. The stand-in letter looks bold.
Questions and answers
Is a skinny font generator the same as a thin one?
Skinny can mean thin strokes or narrow letters, and this page covers the first. Its narrowest face, Herr Von Muellerhoff, sets lowercase in roughly 60 percent of Raleway's width. For narrow, heavy capitals, pick Anton or Bebas Neue on the transparent text generator.
What does Thin mean as a font weight?
The CSS fonts specification names weight 100 Thin, 400 Normal and 700 Bold. Raleway, Work Sans and Josefin Sans are drawn here at 100. Raleway began as one thin weight by Matt McInerney and grew to nine in 2012. The other two have one weight.
Can I use it as a logo or on an invitation?
Yes. The five fonts carry the SIL Open Font License, whose FAQ lists logos among permitted uses, says the artwork is yours and makes credit optional. For print, use Download SVG, which keeps each hairline sharp at any size.
