Pick the machine
Special Elite is the battered one, with blotchy edges and a splattered comma. Its letters keep their own widths; the other three are monospaced. Courier Prime is a dark slab. Cutive Mono is hairline thin and sets the widest line. Cousine keeps serifs only on narrow letters like i and r, and reads like a printout.
Wear the ink down
Rough print under Look wobbles the edges, the way ink spreads into soft paper. Chalk dust knocks small gaps into the letters, like a ribbon running dry. Pen weight thickens every stroke, and Cutive Mono needs it most. Strength of the look opens low, at 30: drag it right for a worse machine. Colours and Background wait under More options.
Tips
- Red is under Colours because two-colour typewriter ribbons were usually black and red.
- On Transparent the PNG is cut to the lettering, so it sits on a photo with no box.
- All four fonts have é, ñ, ü, ö, ç, ß, ø and å, but not ł, š, ž or ğ.
Questions and answers
Does it work as a courier font generator?
Yes: pick Courier Prime, an open-licence redrawing of Courier made with screenplays in mind. Howard Kettler designed the original in the mid-1950s. The file here is the bold weight, so it sets darker than a typed script.
Is there a courier new font generator here?
Not the typeface itself: it is commercial and is not shipped here. Cousine was drawn to match Courier New width for width, under an open licence. Typeface names on this page belong to their owners, and the page is not connected with them.
Can I copy and paste the typewriter text?
It makes a picture, not text. After your first line, Copy picture puts the PNG on the clipboard for a document or a chat. For typewriter letters that paste into a bio or a username, use the monospace text generator.
Why is one font so much wider than another?
A monospaced font gives every character the same width, full stop included, so lines run long. The sample's second line is about 20 percent wider in Cutive Mono than in Special Elite. A long line is shrunk to fit, so wide fonts come out smaller.
