The twelve zodiac symbols run from ♈ Aries to ♓ Pisces, in zodiac order. Unicode marks them to be drawn as emoji by default, so each sign also has a text style row that asks for the plain drawing.

A sign as an emoji or as plain text

Each of the twelve has a second row, such as Gemini, text style, that adds U+FE0E, an invisible selector asking for the plain drawing. Take that row when a Taurus, Libra or Capricorn sign should match the text around it.

Dates, element and ruler are in the row

Each sign's note gives its element, modality, ruling planet and approximate dates. Each element has one row that copies all three of its signs: ♈♌♐ fire, ♉♍♑ earth, ♊♎♒ air and ♋♏♓ water. Then come planets, lunar nodes, four asteroids and chart aspects.

♓ Pisces is two fish tied by a cord, usually swimming in opposite directions.

Why does a zodiac sign turn into an emoji?

Unicode marks ♈ to ♓ for emoji presentation, so a screen draws the colour emoji unless asked not to. A text style row adds U+FE0E, the selector that requests plain text.

What are the dates of each zodiac sign?

Each sign starts on about: Aries 20 March, Taurus 20 April, Gemini 21 May, Cancer 21 June, Leo 22 July, Virgo 23 August, Libra 23 September, Scorpio 23 October, Sagittarius 22 November, Capricorn 21 December, Aquarius 20 January, Pisces 18 February.

Why do zodiac dates differ from one list to another?

Aries starts at the March equinox, which falls between 19 and 21 March, so every sign's dates shift by a day between years. The dates here are in Universal Time; in the Americas a sign often begins the evening before.

Is there a symbol for a 13th zodiac sign?

There is a character: ⛎ Ophiuchus, the Serpent-bearer, added in Unicode 6.0 in 2010. It is not one of the twelve signs of astrology. The Sun passes in front of the constellation from 29 November to 18 December.

Can I type a zodiac sign on a keyboard?

No. None of the twelve has an Alt code, a named HTML entity or a key on the U.S. layout. In HTML, write the number: ♈ for ♈ Aries up to ♓ for ♓ Pisces, with ♌ for ♌ Leo and ♒ for ♒ Aquarius.
