How it works
G in bubble letters is a C with a bar, and fattening shuts the gap above the bar first. Lose it and a C is left. These six fonts keep it, with a foot, a nick or a dark mark.

G needs its bar
Mochiy Pop One opens the set: its bar pokes out past the curve and a small foot drops under it, so it cannot pass for a C. Bubblegum Sans has the same foot, smaller. Lilita One has no bar at all, only an upright. Bagel Fat One keeps a dark hook inside. Titan One is down to a nick and a line. Chango is the wide one, a little wider than tall.
Small g and its tail
All six draw the handwriting g, a ring with a hooked tail, not the looped g of book type. The tail hangs nearly half a capital's height below the line in Bubblegum Sans and about a fifth in Titan One.
Tips
- Goggles has a capital G, two small g's and an o. Mochiy Pop One keeps all three eyes as rings.
- Rule a second pencil line a third of a capital's height under the first. The tail of g stops there.
Questions and answers
How do you draw the letter G in bubble letters?
Pencil a C, then a short bar pointing inward from its lower end, about halfway up. Draw one rounded outline around both. Keep the gap above the bar as wide as your outline is thick, or the bar melts into the curve.
How do I tell a bubble letter G from a C?
By the bar, not by width. G is the wider letter in all six fonts here, but only just. Add a foot under the bar, as Mochiy Pop One does, and nobody reads it as C.
How do you draw a lowercase g in bubble letters?
Pencil a small circle, then a stem down its right side that curls left under it into a hook. Go round both in one outline and leave a small oval for the eye. A straight stem makes a q.
Why has the bar of my printed G almost gone?
The Bubble look fattens every stroke, so the bar and the top of the curve grow until they meet. Open More options and slide Strength of the look down, or set Look to Hollow, which leaves the gap open in all six.
