How it works
P in bubble letters is a round head on a stem. Its bowl fills only the top of the letter, so the hole is small before any fattening. Two of these six fonts keep it open; four leave a mark.

Which fonts keep the hole in P
Mochiy Pop One opens the set, the only one with a clear hole in both P and p. Bubblegum Sans keeps a triangle in the capital and a half-moon in the small letter. Chango has a stem half the letter's width and a bowl that reaches three quarters of the way down. DynaPuff is a lollipop with no corners. Bagel Fat One leaves a bar, Chewy a tick.
Small p hangs below the line
Small p is a ring with a stem on its left that drops under the line by a quarter of a capital's height or more. Type Puppet in Your letters or words: of its three p's, only Mochiy Pop One keeps every hole open. Next style moves on to Bubblegum Sans.
Tips
- Chewy turns the sizes round: its small p has a hole more than twice as big as its capital's.
- A dot or a dash for the hole is enough. P reads by its outline, a head on a stem.
Questions and answers
How do you draw a bubble letter P?
Pencil a stem, then a half circle from its top that meets the stem again about two thirds of the way down. Trace round both as one shape with soft corners. Put a small oval high in the bowl and rub out the pencil.
How do you draw a lowercase p in bubble letters?
Start with the stem: a short upright that begins at the height of a small o and ends well under the line. Add a ring to its top right, outline both as one shape and leave a dot inside.
How do I tell a small p from a q in bubble letters?
By the side the stem is on. Both are a ring with a stem hanging below the line: on p it hangs from the left, on q from the right. Turn the stem upwards and you get b and d.
Why does the hole in a bubble letter P close up?
It starts small. In four of these six fonts the hole of P is under half the size of D's. Open More options and lower Strength of the look, or set Look to Outline or Hollow.
