An S in bubble letters is a fat 8 with two cuts: one in from the right above the waist, one in from the left below it. Fatten it too far and both cuts heal. These six fonts keep them.

Six that keep both cuts
Chewy opens the set. Its S is the narrowest of the six, and both cuts stay wide, capital and small. Bubblegum Sans has the only other open small s, and its capital curls the lower end into a loop. The other four squeeze the small s to slits: Fredoka, Baloo 2, Mochiy Pop One and Chango, whose S is exactly as wide as tall.
A small s inside a word
Most plurals end in a small s, so a lettered word tends to finish on the harder half. Type Sunset in Your letters or words. Its middle s keeps open notches only in Chewy and Bubblegum Sans. For the rest, open More options and lower Strength of the look until the slits widen.
Tips
- Stuck? Pencil two stacked circles, then cut the top one from the right and the bottom from the left.
- Make the middle stroke a long slope, not a flat bar. A flat middle leaves the cuts shallow.

How do you draw a bubble letter S?
Pencil a thin S with a long sloping middle. Trace a rounded outline around it and push the line deep into the two bays, one on each side, leaving each at least a pencil wide. Rub out the S inside.
How do you draw a lowercase s in bubble letters?
Small s is the capital made shorter at the same thickness, so its cuts close first. Give it more width for its height than the capital, as Chewy does, and thin the stroke. A cut that still closes can stay as a short line.
Why does the letter S in bubble letters turn into an 8?
Both cuts have closed. They are the narrowest gaps in the letter, and thick strokes fill narrow gaps first. Thin the stroke, or stretch the S taller so its two ends sit further from the middle.
How do I print a big S in bubble letters to colour in?
Open More options and set Kind of sheet to Banner pages. The capital fills page one and the small s page two. The third of the 3 pages already carries the pair as one large outline.
