How it works
In bubble letters L has two problems. The capital is a post and a foot, and a fat post swallows a short foot. Small l becomes a pill, the same as capital I. Two fonts here give it a tail.

Six fonts, six feet
Fredoka opens the sheet: a square inside corner, a long foot and a small l with a tail. Mochiy Pop One leans, sweeps its foot upward and flicks its small l. Bubblegum Sans curls the end of the foot up. Chango is wider than tall. Lilita One is half as wide as tall. Bagel Fat One ends the foot in a round bulb.
Small l needs a tail
Small l is one upright post, and so are capital I and the digit 1. Fattened, all three come out as the same pill. Some typefaces bend the foot of the l to the right, and Fredoka and Mochiy Pop One do. The other four draw a plain bar, which reads as l only inside a word.
Tips
- Lollipop has l, l, i in a row: three blocks in Chango. In Fredoka the tails mark the l's.
- Round every outside corner and keep the inside one square. That single corner is what reads as L.
- Let the foot reach twice the post's thickness past it. Shorter, and a fat L reads as a block.
Questions and answers
How do you draw the letter L in bubble letters?
Pencil a thin upright line with a foot to the right, about two thirds as long. Draw one outline around it, the same distance from the pencil all the way, keep the inside corner square, then rub out the pencil.
How do you draw a lowercase l in bubble letters?
Draw a tall pill, as high as the capital, and bend its foot to the right into a short tail. Without the tail a fat small l is the same shape as a capital I. Fredoka's small l on this page is the model.
How do I tell a small l from a capital I or a 1?
By the ends. The l turns right at the foot, the 1 has a flag at the top left, and the I has a bar at both ends or none. In Fredoka all three differ: a plain pill, a tailed l and a flagged 1.
Can I print one giant L for a door or a banner?
Open More options, then Kind of sheet, and pick Banner pages. Capital L fills one sheet and small l the next. Page three of the opening set already has both together as one big outline to colour.
